History

History:

The barge, measuring 17.5 meters in length and 6 meters in width, has an unknown date and cause of sinking. Lying at a depth of 30 meters, the wreck’s wooden sections have deteriorated, while its metal components have remained intact. During the landings, barges were used to enable soldiers aboard transport ships to reach the shore at shallow points. These barges were steel-hulled vessels with wooden decks. After the landings, they were used to transport troops, supplies, ammunition, and animals along the shoreline.

Diving Equipment Information:

The equipment used for diving includes basic scuba gear: mask, fins, weights, buoyancy control device (BCD), scuba tank, wetsuit (3–5 mm depending on the season), regulator, and gloves. During the November–March season, a 7 mm neoprene suit, semi-dry suit, or dry suit is required. Diving with this equipment is possible at the Gallipoli Historical Underwater Park.
