Akbaş Bay / Nara Point / Bigalı FortressHistory:
Mania Nets were produced at the Golden Horn Shipyard to prevent submarines from passing through the straits.
Designed in 4 × 4 sections, each segment of the net is square in shape. With a length of 60 meters and a depth of 30 meters, the Mania Nets were deployed between Akbaş Bay and Nara Point, and between Bigalı Fortress and Nara Point.
A total of 25 nets were installed between 26 June and 27 July, covering an area of approximately 1,500 meters in length between the buoys. One of the 60-meter-long nets identified in AkbaÅŸ Bay remains as an example of the Mania Nets and, even after 106 years, still awaits exploration by divers.
Diving Equipment Information:
The equipment used for diving includes basic scuba gear: mask, fins, weights, buoyancy control device (BCD), scuba tank, wetsuit (3–5 mm depending on the season), regulator, and gloves. During the November–March season, a 7 mm neoprene suit, semi-dry suit, or dry suit is required. Diving with this equipment is possible at the Gallipoli Historical Underwater Park.
