HistoryThe SS MILO, measuring 74 x 9 meters, was built in 1865 as a steam passenger ship. With the onset of World War I, the ship was commissioned by the British Admiralty and used during the war for transporting supplies to the troops located in Anzac Cove in the Arıburnu region. On October 26, 1915, the ship was secured by filling the area with concrete to protect the vessels approaching the open area, and a generator was installed to illuminate the beach with searchlights. The ship, used for this purpose until the end of the war, was sunk during the withdrawal. The SS Milo lies at a depth of 5 to 7 meters and, although largely damaged, retains its shape.
